A Heart, Not a Performance
Joel 2–3 · Amos 1
“And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful.”
Joel 2:13 KJV
TODAY’S DEVOTION
Public signs of sorrow could be displayed without inward surrender. God asks for the heart. Biblical repentance is more than regret, emotion, or managing appearances; it is a genuine turning toward the gracious and merciful Lord. Because God is merciful, you can stop performing and become honest. Let Him change what is beneath the surface.

שׁוּב · šûḇ · H7725
Šûḇ means to turn or return. Joel’s call is relational movement back to the LORD, not merely outward mourning.
Joel 2 calls God’s people to wholehearted repentance in the face of the day of the LORD and promises the outpouring of God’s Spirit.
