Hear Before You Speak
Ezekiel 31–33
“So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.”
Ezekiel 33:7 KJV
TODAY’S DEVOTION
The watchman’s first responsibility was not to make noise; it was to hear the word from God’s mouth. Only then could he warn the people faithfully. Spiritual responsibility becomes dangerous when urgency outruns listening. A message may be forceful and still fail to be God’s message.
Every believer bears witness, and ministers carry an especially sober stewardship. We must not soften what Scripture says, but neither may we attach God’s authority to personal opinion. Stay near the Word. Pray until your motives are clean. Speak with courage and compassion, remembering that warning aims at repentance and life. Faithfulness is not measured by applause or rejection; it is measured by whether we heard God and represented Him truthfully.

צָפָה · ṣāp̄â · H6822
Ṣāp̄â means to look out, keep watch, or observe from a vantage point. The watchman sees danger in order to serve others, not to elevate himself above them.
After Jerusalem’s fall is reported, Ezekiel’s watchman commission is renewed. The chapter joins responsibility to warn with God’s stated desire that the wicked turn from his way and live.
